Wilderness Survival

During my time networking in Berlin I met a man who was looking to set up a wilderness camp for his local community. Hoping to teach the kids of the area how to interact with and survive in the wild he needed some photos to show his enthusiasm and knowledge. So I went with him on one of his adventures and captured the moments he needed
Cozy Camping
Something that is important when representing a learning opportunity for children is to show the safety and comfort of the people participating. So I made an effort to focus on the campsite and how the space was made for the activity. A warm fire, handmade stools draped with furs and a cozy atmosphere

After setting up camp it was Brötzeit, or bread time. A common german tradition during the day when you eat bread, veggies and cheese. A great meal for the campground that would help us get through the learning and journey we had ahead of us. I really aimed to show the campsite as a warm and inviting area

Wonderful Wilderness
We were settled in a forest of tall pine trees with red and brown gradients of bark that ran up and down their trunks. The colors of the area were a vibrant range of yellows and greens with the pathways leading us to new adventures into the wild.

Amongst the trees we spotted fluttering birds swooping between branches. Some were digging into the wood looking for grubs. Others chirped at each other and filled the air with song. We met many critters amongst the grass and crawled close to see the many different sizes of nature.

Teaching Moments
The most important part of this photoshoot was showing the interest in teaching and curiosity in both the host and the guests. We wanted to emphasize the little moments and the interest that they had in the local nature. To do this we set off on an adventure through the forest looking at the little things among the grass

We also prepared our survival tools, carving spoons and animal heads with our knives. We lit fires with sparks from a friction fire using a bow. Showing them using these skills gives others a good idea at what they will be doing with their new skills.

Creating with Curiosity
Capturing the beauty of nature is something I have been doing for many years now and with this I get to capture intrigue along with it. These skills and experiences are worth sharing and finding more people to learn will introduce others to these amazing woods.
